Karen Oman founded Time to Breathe in the wake of a successful career as owner and founder of Certes Financial Pros.  After nearly 20 years of accounting roles, primarily in financial reporting and analysis, Karen built a company that was more in line with her business values and life goals.  In 1994, she founded the financial staffing firm and local work/life balance pioneer, Certes Financial Pros. In Karen’s 13 years as President and Founder, Certes realized consistent double digit growth and was honored with multiple awards for its positive company culture, treatment of employees, and innovative entrepreneurial spirit.  Looking for a little more work/life balance for herself, she sold Certes in 2007 to national staffing firm, Staffing Now.

When Karen was a young girl she always wanted to be a writer, but she grew up in a time without word processing, and the frustration of erasing chased her away from that dream.  In 2009 as a young retiree, she embarked on her new dream job as a writer, publishing her first children’s book, Gifts of the Heart (available to view and buy on this website) and sharing her wisdom through writings on Time to Breathe.  Since then, her loyal following of readers has grown.  In February of 2011, Karen passed away from cancer and entrusted the website to her daughter Lindsay. Time to Breathe marks one of the many legacies Karen left behind and her writings are still available for readers to enjoy.  Before passing, she was absolutely delighted that Time to Breathe would continue on.
